Job Title: Galveston County Wellness Center Clinician

Working Status: Full Time; Shift Wednesday 4pm-8pm, Thursday-Saturday 8am-8pm

Summary:

Under the general direction of the Lead Clinician, the Wellness Center Clinician performs clinical services in support of the operations of the Wellness Center's Extended Observation Unit (EOU).

The Wellness Center is a structured, safe, and secure short-term crisis stabilization environment in the community, housing both an Extended Observation (EOU) Unit and a Respite transitional unit. The EOU offers a therapeutic, recovery oriented, team-based environment where clinicians help individuals move from crisis toward stabilization through engagement, assessment, solution focused brief interventions, recovery planning, and connection to Gulf Coast Center (GCC) and other ongoing care providers. The EOU assists those served to bridge the gap between emergency services and ongoing community treatment.

This position will provide direct clinical services including assessment, diagnoses, therapy, psycho-social groups, and skills trainings to individuals admitted to the EOU. The clinician role involves work as part of a multidisciplinary team to engage individuals in care, care coordination, and diversion from unnecessary hospitalization or incarceration. The multi-disciplinary team on location is made up of a Clinician Program Manager, Clinician Care Providers, case managers, RNs, direct care specialists, onsite security specialists, and both on site and on-call psychiatrists.

The Galveston County Wellness Center Clinician will be responsible for the following:

Essential Job Duties:

  • Clinician is responsible for assisting the RN Program Manager for all Galveston County Wellness Center clinical services on a daily basis.
  • Provides clinical services including assessment, diagnoses, therapy, and skills trainings to individuals admitted to the Center.
  • All Center admissions have to be assessed by a Clinician within 1 hour of admission for a diagnosis if not already seen by a psychiatrist.
  • The Clinician will also assist with admission crisis assessments and other non-licensed tasks if needed.
  • Provides direct services to individuals admitted to Center and in follow up to individuals that have transitioned from the Center to home.
  • Clinician will work to ensure that all individuals discharging from the Center have warm hand off to outpatient services.
  • Responsible for adherence to and compliance with Gulf Coast Center policies and procedures, which include state regulatory codes.
  • Responsible and accountable for the adherence to and promotion of the compliance policy.
  • Responsible for providing individuals with coping skills to support resilience and recovery
  • Responsible for engaging individuals with family and identified support system and community resources and support
  • Clinician works with other Center clinicians to ensure that there is a clinician on duty 12 hours a day to meet standards
  • Responsible to facilitate completion of Center individuals' enrollments prior to discharge as much as possible.
  • Assists individuals stabilized for suicide ideation with warm hand offs to Pathway to Care suicide prevention follow up.
  • May evaluate individuals for appropriateness for Center discharge.
  • May evaluate Center individuals for inpatient care in the event of crisis recurrence at Center.
  • Helps individuals with conflict and problem resolution at the Center.
  • Provide highest level of Customer Service for both internal and external customers.
  • Required to report personnel leave; flex time and emergency leave to assigned supervisor.

  • Will be responsible and accountable for the adherence to and promotion of the agency compliance policy and will require communication with various departments to foster, develop and continue our community partnerships as it relates to the position.

  • May be required to travel within Brazoria and Galveston Counties.
  • Out of region travel may be required to attend trainings.
  • Must maintain a clear driving record and driver's license in accordance with our Driver Policy.

  • The hire for this position must be effective in presenting Galveston County Wellness Center information to local stakeholders, external agencies and other organizations to educate and/or gain cooperation with their response systems.
  • Center staff are expected to utilize collaborative documentation as much as possible to have service documentation in the electronic health record by the end of their shifts. Documentation must be entered within 2 business days of service provision.

Supervision:

  • Receives direct administrative supervision from Galveston County Wellness Center Clinician Lead.

Required Education/ Licensure/Certifications:

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or related field from an accredited college or university.
  • LPC, LCSW, LMFT, Licensed Psychologist, PhD, or Advance Nurse Practitioner

Preferred Education/Licensure/Certifications:

  • Prefer a master's degree or equivalent in the behavioral sciences field of study from an accredited college or university.

Required Experience:

  • N/A

Preferred Experience:

  • 1 year related mental health experience is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Work will be performed in the Office, Field and/or Remotely setting(s).
  • May require varied work hours depending on need of clients.
  • Out of region travel may be required to attend trainings.
  • May require travel to various locations within Brazoria and Galveston Counties. Requires current Texas Driver's License, reliable transportation safe and current with all state requirements, and liability insurance.
  • Expectation of a 40 hour work week, but the needs of an around the clock Crisis Center will make flexibility critical. Requires phone or virtual availability after hours and flexible work hours to meet program needs.

Special Projects:

  • Assist supervisor when requested to complete special projects and complete all assignments within a time frame negotiated with the supervisor. Completion of other duties as assigned by supervisor as it relates to the program and position.
