Fall 2024 Practicum/Intern - Behavioral Health

What does a Practicum/Internship with Gulf Coast Center offer:

  • Potential Duties, include:
    • Opportunity to work with adults and children in services.
    • Will manage a small caseload of individuals in service.
    • Complete screenings and assessments
    • Skills Training
    • Group Therapy co-facilitation
    • Shadowing of therapy sessions

Recording of client sessions is not allowed. If this a school requirement, we offer supervisor video meetings to check in on progress as an alternative.

Minimum Requirements 

I) Essential Functions

  1. Follow and complete duties as assigned.
  2. Complete applicable training requirements to participate in internship assignments.

II) Knowledge of Laws, Policies/Procedures, Skills, Education and Abilities

  • Effective organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable procedures related to the respective fields of:
    • Social Work
    • Case Management
    • Counseling
    • LCDC
    • LPC
    • Psychology
    • Sociology
    • Substance abuse
    • Rehabilitation 

III) Internal & External Customer Service

This position requires extensive internal (team members, agency personnel) and external contacts. The position will accomplish this with above average written and oral skills.


IV) Travel

This position may require driving to and from locations for work and may require travel to agency program sites. Interns are required to have a license in good standing and be able to be covered by school liability insurance. If personal vehicle is utilized for work travel, then maintaining personal auto insurance coverage is required.

Job Requirements:

Required Education
Currently enrolled in a Behavioral Health Bachelor or Masters level program, that requires a Practicum/Internship.

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled at an institution of higher education
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Must pass a criminal background history check
  • Must pass a drug and TB screening

If Grad student working on Masters level Practicum/Internship, you must be able to attend these live trainings during your onboarding process. They are live trainings (some in person and some virtual) conducted at a specific time during the business day.

  • Orientation …....On a Monday, all day, in person
  • CPR ………………..Typically the Thursday same week of Orientation, 4 hours, virtual in the morning. (if they have never had CRP or it has been a long time, they will need to attend an in person 2 hours that afternoon)
  • SAMA …………….Typically the Friday same week of Orientation, All day, in person.
  • Smart Care……. The week after Orientation, all day Monday and Wednesday, virtual.
  • CISP………………..Monday through Thursday, typically 3 weeks after Orientation, all day (Mon-Wed are in person, Thur is virtual)
  • ASIST…………….. 2 days, all day, in person. Typically 1 ½ - 2 months after Orientation
  • Med Transport…… ½ day in person, typically 2-3 months after Orientation
  • Opioid Overdose… ½ day in person, typically 2-3 months after Orientation


Testing Requirements
Tests including drug and TB screening.
